I’m a living document

Hey guys! So I as I mentioned in my first blog I am on a spiritual journey.  Well, have been for a very long time.  At times more focused than others and I used to beat myself up over that.  But what I’ve realized is that finding your truth, finding your bliss or yourself is not a one-time deal.  It’s not like an “I-sit-today-and-figure-it-out right now type of deal”.  It really is an ongoing process.  I teach full time and one of the terms I’ve picked up is living document.  We use that term a lot when writing curriculum referring to the fact that as we teach the lessons the document will be edited and revised as it continues to evolve.  eckart tolle      I like to think of my spiritual journey as a “living document”.  Throughout the journey,  I will add to it,  I will take away, I will modify, sometimes I will go back to it, but it’s never a complete or finalized document.  Just as spirituality is not a destination I’ll reach but rather a process that I will go through.

Every time I fall of the spiritual wagon, I beat myself up a little, and jump right back on.  I jump back on because after listening to so many life coaches, Super Soul Sunday podcasts, and reading so many self-help books (I will list my favorites at the end) there are some things I have realized and come to understand.  Ready? Here it goes.  (Yes, I love writing in lists or bullets, it’s how my brain functions). So this is what I realize so far:

  1. Each and every one of us has a purpose on this beautiful expansive planet.
  2. We were not put here to be mediocre. At all!  We are so magnificent and so full of  E  V E R Y T H I N G!!!
  3. We are all meant to have abundance in whatever shape, way or form is fulfilling to us.   IT could be money, for sure, but not everyone is seeking that.  It could be abundance of knowledge, or health or family or experiences.  But we are all meant to have our heart’s desire.  Every little desire we possess is ours for the taking. The minute you think it, vocalize it, it exists and it is yours.
  4. What works for me (podcasts, meditation and readings) may not work for you. And it’s okay. Find what works.
  5. There are tons of self-help books out there that give the same message, BUT in different ways and styles and that is meant to help us tap into the message that our souls are ready, willing and able to receive.
  6. Lastly, and this is huge because I have NEVER, ever been a religious person.  We all need some form of GOD.  It could be God, Buddha, yoga, the Universe, energy, meditation, bible teachings, religion, or whatever type of practice that connects you to something outside of you and then brings you back within.  FYI, this does not mean you have to go to church.  There is a huge difference between spirituality and religion and that’s where many get caught up and tangled.

Every year should be a year of growth and transformation – and I beyond am excited to share this year’s journey with you.

Like I promised, here are some of my favorite self help readings out there:

  • You’re a BadAss and You’re a BadAss at Making Money by Jen Sincere. These are to the point, frank and down to earth teachings about all the things that we already know but are afraid to practice. She also curses which totally taps into the truck driver mouth in me.jensinero

  • The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Let me tell you if you haven’t read it, please pick it up today. My mother gave me this book about 10 years ago after I went through a bout of depression. I barely touched it.  I stuck it on a shelf, probably didn’t sell it at a garage sale or online (I am always selling shit) because it was a gift from mom).  I recently listened to a podcast interview with Don Ruiz on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday and I just fell in love with his message so much I downloaded the audiobook.  I. Listen. To. It. Everyday!  Please, please pick it up!!!

Making assumptions is the #1 killer of any and all relationships!!!
  • Of course, Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth and The Power of Now. Enough said. Unless you’ve been on a deserted island or under a rock, these two should be your blueprint for healing, living, and letting others lives.

Okay, so I am done for today.  Of course tomorrow I could be off the spiritual wagon and have taken three steps back in this journey or maybe not.  What I leave you with is this, becoming a better person is a constant, ongoing, consistent (this one is important) effort.  It’s not a fly by night, or a new year’s resolution.  You have to wake everyday setting intentions to continue on your journey to becoming the person you were meant to be and fulfilling your life’s purpose.  And finding your joy.
