Why LolaUncorked?

Hey guys! Today marks a week that I launched my blog www.lolauncorked.blog and though I still find myself tweaking older posts (and checking for grammatical errors-pet peeve #1) and I have to say that I am pretty happy with it.

I wanted to go back a little and explain the LolaUncorked.  A few of you have asked and some may be wondering.  And of course some of you may not give a sh*t, which is totally fine too.  LOL!

I picked up the Lola a really long time ago.  I guess you could say it’s my alter ego.  Some of you, my friends, know this and finally after like 10 years, some of you even call me that sometimes.

Lola is the one who comes out on full moons, you could say.  Lola is allowed some bad behaviors and often times when the behavior is really poor, I blame Lola.  No guys!! Lola doesn’t steal, lie or cheat, but Lola may at times party too much, sleep too much and just be plain unproductive.  She eats the wrong things, doesn’t work out, spends too much money.  She could be too loud and too obnoxious.  She could make poor decisions and then regret them.  That was the original Lola.

Over the years, Lola continues to evolve.  She has become this very mature (like fine wine) version of me.  When I am afraid to speak in front of people or stand up for myself Lola kicks in.  Lola is BADASS!

But even still Lola has at times held back, not really saying everything she wants to say for fear of hurting people’s feelings or not being liked.

So I started thinking about wine and my love of wine.

The Spruce says this about letting wine breathe or aerate:

“The whole concept of letting wine breathe, or aerate, is simply maximizing your wine’s exposure to the surrounding air. By allowing wine to mix and mingle with air, the wine will typically warm up and the wine’s aromas will open up, the flavor profile will soften and mellow out a bit and the overall flavor characteristics should improve.”

This is perfect in its definition and connection to Lola being Uncorked.

Through this blog, by mixing and mingling with all of you and opening up I know I will soften and mellow.  Becoming a better version of me, Jenny.  This blogging process is not only a journey to hone my writing skill, but also to grow spiritually, to make connections and grow.

Any journey you embark on that is for self discovery creates space for the improvement of character and self.  It makes you better for the people around you.

Aerating wine improves its character and lets its full flavor come into its own.

Aerating wine is like allowing it to stretch its legs after being cooped up in a bottle for too long. I am stretching my legs.

My hope is to have the same effect on you – a positive impact.  Goodness knows there is enough negativity around us already.

Oprah said this recently in her What I Know For Sure segment of the latest Oprah issue in reference to her speech at the Golden Globes:

“As long as I have a voice (and a vote), I can use it to uplift humankind.” -Oprah Winfrey

That is my goal –  to uplift you guys who take the time and come to read.  I mean everyone’s time is precious.  And even though I want to be funny and entertaining, I also want my experiences to get you reflecting and perhaps to begin your own journey of “uncorking” and speaking your truth.  I want your visits to my site to be worthy of your time.

There is enough holding back in our society.  There are enough filters to hide behind. There are enough people already mincing words.

I am done with that.  I am speaking my truth.  Some of you may like it and of course and some may not and that’s ok.

So it was time to really uncork Lola and allow her to speak her truth about any and everything that comes to mind without quelling anyone’s voice and spirit.

Of course you can also aerate too much and destroy the experience.  That is not my goal.  I don’t want to be a loud mouth with nothing to say who eventually ends up suppressing your voice.  My goal is also to encourage you all to use your voice and speak up.

It is in speaking up that we come into our own, just as uncorking a wine allows the wine to come into its fullness.

And so that is why LolaUncorked.

I’ll be highlighting a wine of the week very soon, as soon as I drink it. LOL!
